When I discovered rock
climbing at the end of my senior year of high school, I thought, "Great! So
this is what having a passion feels like. Now I just need to find a career
option that I feel this way about, and I'm all set." Fortunately for me, I
never discovered a "real-world" career that fueled my passion for living fully
the same way that climbing did and continues to do, so I did the only thing any
logical person would do: I made climbing my career instead. I continue to love
climbing to this day, more than 20 years later. If I could climb at my peak
ability level every day, I would. Since I can't, I balance climbing with
coaching other climbers, writing, playing video games, and teaching yoga. Teaching
yoga has enabled me to share my joy of coordinating movement in the moment and
uniting the mental and physical with far more people than climbing ever could.
Simply put, I am a
person lives to move and to be present in the current moment, no matter what
I'm doing. Nothing makes me feel more alive and in tune with my surroundings
and my entire being than moving and living fully in the present moment, whether
I'm climbing, practicing or teaching yoga, or just laughing and hanging out
